Pittsford Fire Department Explorer Post 595

The Pittsford Fire Department Explorer Post 595 offers youth in our community hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a volunteer or full-time firefighter. Explorers receive fire service training under supervision of trained firefighters, designed to give participants experience, discipline, and knowledge – not only to foster an interest in firefighting as a possible career choice, but to give them leadership experience and self-confidence that can be applied to any future career field.

Fire Explorers will:

  • Have fun and exciting hands-on career experiences
  • Improve their critical thinking and gain self-confidence
  • Learn important leadership skills
  • Have access to community service opportunities
  • Develop and expand a social network
  • Be presented with college & career readiness preparation & scholarship opportunities

By-Laws / Constitution

The Object of the Pittsford Fire Explorers shall be:

Section 1 To organize and maintain, with the members of the Pittsford Volunteer Fire Department and Explorer Post to promote a public interest in fire safety and to aid the Pittsford Volunteer Fire Department in any way possible.

Section 2 To provide training and to familiarize members with firematics and to foster an interest in firefighting as a possible career.

Section 3 To Promote such activities as the Explorer Post shall determine, of social or community nature, for the mutual enjoyment and benefit of the members of the post.

Rules / Regulations

Explorer applicants must first meet all requirements set out by the Pittsford Fire District and the Boy Scouts of America.

1. Have reached the age of 14 years old and completed the eighth grade.

2. Reside within the Pittsford Fire District.

3. Be willing to undergo drug testing prior to acceptance into the Pittsford Fire Department Explorer Post.

  • Explorers are expected to attend at least 50% of all scheduled explorer post functions, i.e. drills, fundraisers, meetings and special events.
  • Explorers are responsible for keeping all of their issued equipment in clean and in working order.
  • Explorers are permitted to attend all calls at their respective fire station.
  • Explorer Post Drills are usually held Tuesday nights, except for the first Tuesday of the month at either fire station.
  • Explorers are invited to all parades in which the Pittsford Fire Department has a presence at.
